Re: OT: What Is?
They're required services.
When you Ctrl+alt+delete it should mention something more under username, but mostly it just says "system". There was one place I could see what each was for but I've forgotten where now... Somewhere in admin tools I think in the control panel..must check.. Edit: Here is all you need to know: http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1 Edit2: To see what each "svchost" is start a dos window and type : tasklist /svc Edit3: Svchost.exe should only be located in your system32 directory under the windows main directory, if it's not you should be able to safely delete it. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...0884~mode=flat [ January 03, 2004, 09:44: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
Re: OT: What Is?
Various viruses like to infect svchost.exe. If you see a lot of those proceses and notice significant decrese of your PC performance, you might have got a worm. I recently had one named W32.HLLW.Gfaobot.DK. It exploits some windows vulnerabilities while spreading in LAN and sends lots of spam, which causes internet connection to lag.

They make a new executable somewhere else and starts that. See the second link in my previous post. |
Re: OT: What Is?
Thanks for the info Renegade. I have to agree, one case in all of the US is quite remarkable. Feeding cows cow, well that is just sick, but I guess the people doing it know more about it than I do, so it must be ok.
