AI ship design file help
 
Hi all, im trying a couple things with the AI ship design script files. I cant figure out a way to get 3 different weapons on the same design. I am fully aware of the 1-5 family picks, but the AI will not use it on smaller ship sizes. I have a couple really good weapons combinations but cant get the AI to do 3 weapons or cant get it to place the weapon in the right order. Here are some of my personal examples that I have been trying to get the computer to design. (Games starts out at high technology - Cruiser)

Shield Depleter - Large Mount
Plasma Missile (x3)
Anti - Proton Beam - Large Mount

Shield Depleter - L
x2 Capital Ship Missiles
AP Beam - L

Shield Depleter - L
2x to 3x AP beams - L mount.

Any insight, comments or Ideas would greatly be appreciated. thanks

AFAIK there is no way to teach the AI to use more then 2 weapon types on a ship.

It is possible to force AI put more than two types of weapons. For example, AI put 2 "normal" weapons and PDC using "point defence" ability type.

To extend it to other weapons, you must assign some bogus abilities normally reserved for facilities, like "spaceport" and use them as tags for specific weapons.

Take a look on Proportions mod file for examples.

After the next patch it will be easier to use more than two weapons for designs, since you can use custom abilities and add weapons as misc. components.

To answer the original question: no, the first two designs cannot be done right now in unmodded SE4.

The third design can be done as follows:

Name := Attack Ship (CR)
Design Type := Attack Ship
Vehicle Type := Ship
Default Strategy := Optimal Firing Range
Size Minimum Tonnage := 490
Size Maximum Tonnage := 510
Num Must Have At Least 1 Ability := 0
Must Have Ability 1 := Weapon
...
Majority Weapon Family Pick 1 := 22
Majority Weapon Family Pick 2 := ...
...
Secondary Weapon Family Pick 1 := 1
Secondary Weapon Family Pick 2 := ...
...
Majority Comp Spaces Per One := 10000
Majority Comp Ability := Weapon
Secondary Comp Spaces Per One := 250 (for 2x APB) / 166 (for 3x APB)
Secondary Comp Ability := Weapon
...
