X2 the Threat doesn\'t trust you

Hi People,

Do you remember a post about that game in this forum ? I discovered it a few months ago when an egosoft developer wrote a post here about it.

So, when the game went out, I headed to their forums, as I learned long ago to never trust reviews. To get an advice on a game, I lurk on a game's forums, reading infos about the game's behavior. Think MOO3 or Deus Ex2 to see my meaning.

In fact, I even made a post in the Support Forum asking a question about the manual. Then I forgot about the game, because it is not due in France until next month. A few days ago, I read somewhere that the game has been heavily patched. So I go back to their forums, wondering what was done with it as it was seemingly bug infested. To my surprise, I cannot access anymore the support forum.

To get a patch, you have to be registred. I can understand that. But not be able to brose the technical forum is to me highly suspicious, and that seems to me overkill if indeed it was decided for Piracy reasons. It is depriving me of precious informations about the game's quality.

Oh well,

That was just today's rant.

Ive posted in this forum about that game, a couple times. Maybe you were reading one of my Posts. I have not picked it up yet, but I did lurk on their 'general' forums a little bit, after it was released. The people seemed to be mostly pleased with the game.

I think you can still lurk, or even post if you register a logon name, on their general forums. see what the guys there think about the game. you dont necessarily need access to the support section.

No.
You need to be registred to access the support forum.

Then, it is my opinion that the support forum is usually a good place to get a hint of how is working the game.

A few month ago, I read in the support forum a post from someone explaining the different Category of weapons and how they were working. I registered and posted to ask if these sort of informations were in the manual. The answer was they were not.

Now, I cannot brose this forum anymore.
That's overkill.

I suspect they have reasons to hide the opinions of buyers about their game. Obviously another reason not to buy it. A copy of MOO3, anyone?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Wow. Thats pretty resounding and final.

Maybe read my post before throwing a fit?

so they locked their support forum, maybe they have something to hide, maybe it was just filling up with trolls. who cares.

go to their GENERAL forum

http://www.egosoft.com/x2/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

or their SPOILER forum

http://www.egosoft.com/x2/forum/viewforum.php?f=10

and ASK if you have any questions - or just read whats already there. The patch news, descriptions, and history is all in the general forum. plenty of people are discussing graphic card differences and things there, as well as game play aspects.

Im not defending them or anything, since i have not played the game. maybe they DO have dark secrets to hide. but you should probably investigate a bit further before resorting to blind panic, liable, and tantrums.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">To this I answered "NO".
As I wrote, a few month ago I posted a question in the support forum, but it is now closed to unregistred people.

As for the "who cares", I do. I like these sort of games, but I am in no way about to throw my cash with the blind faith it will be playable. Which was not an obvious reality previously.

You really should read my Posts before posting, that would help your answer.

A hippie motto was "Don't walk on the grass, smoke it". You should try the reverse.

Aren't there, like, any REVIEWS or anything? They can't make customers sign an NDA... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Reviews mean nothing. Civ 3 got rave reviews accross the board.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That is over kill and should be taken as a horribly bad sign.

Also I post at the Deus Ex IW Tech forum as well. The game is good, but has many issues that need to be addressed. Still it is a fun game.
