New and interested in doing a Mod

Hi everyone owned SEIV:gold for awhile but haven't posted here before

Ive recently started working on a Master of Orion mod, using the ship models from MOO2 and race pics from MOO3 so far to construct the races

To my knowledge i don't think anyone has tried to make a mod in the MOO universe but if anyone has done n could give me a link that would be appreciated.

Also any advice to a newbie at modding this game would be appreciated. Ive noticed all the relavant files are external which is very helpful and ive got myself hold of the Mod tutorial in PDF format which has been helpful in explaining all the various txt files used to flesh out the mechanics of the game.

Oh and one Last thing im abit stuck on how to make portraits of 2 dimensional ships any recomended programs i could use to flesh out some simple portraits ?

I think ekolis was planning on making a MOO mod at some point, but didn't finish it.

Oh, and as for advice... ask any questions you have on the forums and they will be answered in no time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Check out the Image Mod. I captured all facilities and components from MOO2 and converted them to SE4 format long ago. They are in it.

Yeah, I actually started on a MOO2 mod - twice! One thing's for sure - don't try to replicate everything in MOO exactly, it will be a royal pain to create, balance, and play. (Scale mounted 0kT one per ship "Structure" components? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif )

If you want to get the ship graphics from MOO2, there's a program called LBXplorer which can extract them and even do some cool palette swapping (try the race select palette on the ships for a cool "energy based" style http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )... can't remember where to find it but I can email you the zip, it's not very big... unfortunately for me, either my data files are corrupt or the program's buggy, because the larger ship hulls tend to have blanks spaces in them... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

As for the sounds from MOO2, I've already extracted them with MultiEx (www.xentax.com) and provided appropriate names for most of them; I believe I gave the file to Fyron, so bug him to post it on se.net if he hasn't already http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

And of course, I'd love to help with this mod; just let me know what you need and I might get around to it sometime http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Oh BTW, why do you want to use the MOO3 race portraits? A lot of the good ones like Mrrshans and Alkari are missing, replaced with more generic lizards and insects; the Trilarians look boring compared to their MOO2 counterparts; the Ithkul and Imsaeis are about as interesting as the Fazrah and the Eee... and they should have learned from Star Control 3 - they're SUPPOSED to look cartoony! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

One step ahead of you with the LBX program got it before i even started to extract M002 files

Id really love to get hold of those sound files ill be in touch about those

my plan at the moment is to get a modded Human race with MOO ships bio and racial things all sorted and fleshed out so i can tinker around with it start experimenting with components

Im not after exactly 100% replicating the orion game just want to get the races out into the SEIV system, i like the way

So far ive got 48 ships in BMP in the red pallette and the Antaran ships cause they came under monsters LBX so i thought id grab um

im gonna just check this images mod just to see whats available cause so far ive skanked weapons platforms, satellites and mines from the Federation on attrocities ST mod

Re: New and interested in doing a Mod

oh yes whoops the race part

hehe well im not using most of those new races in MOO3 and if i do include them there going to be minor/neutral races

the races im going to resserect from MOO2 will most likely be:
Mrrshan
Elerian (got a Moo3 art pic ill use for them)
Bulrathi
Darlock
Alkari

(I have always hated the Gnolam long tradition back in my school days of doing hot seats over a mates house and the first thing we'd all do is kill off the Gnolam AI player)

Ill probably end up using a mix of MOO3 and 2 art anyway depending on the race

Actually you have any idea if its possible to skank those animations that exist in Moo2 with the spies, scientists and soldiers of the various races when you aquire tech through illicit and genuine means?

There are one or two Moo3 races i dont mind such as the gassies (gas planet races) if i make them the only race who are able to inhabit Gas based planets gives them a slight advantage else those Gases are just going to waste

Re: New and interested in doing a Mod

Right well cheers for pointing that out thats taken care of a big chunk of work id of had to done

The facilities are fab

One problem ive encountered with the ship files im extracting from LBX to BMP

every 48 ships in the ship LBX are colour coded to a certain palette and have a certain design style to coincide with a race which in the game would be determined by what flag colour you choose on setup

one problem is there are only 8 sets of these ships i could just make differnt colour pallettes or something and give another race the same designs but with differnt colours

anyway 8 races is fine to aim to have for now

what colours with whats races though urgh!

So far i have all the red set in BMP, normally id associate these with the Mrrshan any input from Moo fans would be helpful

I even toyed with a MOO mod once, but gave up and went for the Star Trek angle instead.
