Hot diggity damn!!! Can't wait for this movie to come out. I just hope they do a better job on the movie than they did the tv show. It just didn't do anything for me. Which is sad, because that is one of the funniest books I've ever read. Now, if the rumors of a Red Dwarf movie were to become true, I'd be in hog heaven.

Re: OT- NEW HITCHHIKERS MOVIE

I have read all of the Hitchhiker books and I really like them. As for the TV series, the first episode was pretty good, the one where the Vogons destroy the earth and Arthur and Ford escape. But the series rapidly went downhill from the second episode onwards. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Hopefully the movie will be good, but there is no way they could fit the entire story into the length of a movie...

A lot of the stuff that happens in the books is just too weird to be in a movie, and people who haven't read the books won't understand, and it will just seem absurd and inexplicable. For example, like the missiles turning into a whale and the petunias thinking "oh, no, not again". Not that it's not strange in the book. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (Well, yes I know there is an explaination for the petunias much later on.)

Martin Freeman will make a good arthur dent, he's extremely drool and he has that very ordinary, very english look and manner to him. Might be a little young, mind, although I don't recall the books ever specifying how old AD actually is.

The question is, how far into the story will they go? Is this going to be another 3-film 11 hour epic like LOTR?

I never read the book, so the movie should be interesting.

Yes, when I was in school, there were a number of graduate students who were in their 20's who looked like they were twice their actual age. I think the stress of working full time during the day and also working on their masters' degrees in the evening wore them out. Those guys were always so tired-looking...
