Massive Planetary Shielding

Can someone tell me if the ruin "Massive Planetary Shielding" is effective agains phased weapons?

Thanks

No it is not. Generally, you would be better off building a few shielded Weapon Platforms. Massive Planetary Shield Generators are extremely expensive and provide very poor protection. That, and I do not think they even stop troops from being dropped.

They are pitiful unmodded. Not worth the cost. Do as Fyron recommended.

But troops won't drop on a planet with weapons platforms, so if they can't wipe out the platforms, they can't drop troops.

I've personally never used them, or weighed them against the cost of actual platforms.

Sort of. Troops can land on a planet with WPs. The strategic combat AI just doesn't like landing them on an planet with WPs IF there are warships on your side. If all you have is non-combatants and a troop transport (or more than 1), the transport will charge the planet and try to drop troops. If it survives, you can conquer the planet with WPs intact.

Perhaps an expansion of these ie the first tech level is in ineffective one then the next discovery bumps up the planet protection + an attack weapon that also works against the new effective one to offset any changes in gameplay.

So a troopship can go at a planet that is defended with WP. Inorder to do this does the Troop carrier's default Stragety have to be set to "point blank"?

No, the default massive planetary shields don't stop phased weapons. Mod them to use phased shield generation and they will.

They still won't stop troop drops.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Not, if you change the strategy to point blank they will not drop troops. That has to stay on "capture planet". What he is saying is that the rest of the fleet cannot have ships with offensive weapons on them. Otherwise teh troop ship will hang back and wait for the WPs to be destroyed first before approaching and roppiong troops.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Additionally if the weaponed ships get destroyed, the troopship(s) that had been hanging back will rush in to try and drop their troops.
