Any way to mod ship sizes and tech
Is there any way to mod the game so that one can increase the space on each ship size and perhaps add extra big ships ie space ships with 5000 unit spaces ?
Or to add intermediate ship types ie escort 2 (between escort and frigate size) and likewise ? Like to see more ship sizes within the next patch to MM if you are reading this ! |

Yes, you can add new ship sizes by editing the file "VehicleSize.txt" in the Data directory.

Thankyou id still like to see it as a expanded option available in the 1.85 patch when it realised ie say 3 intermediate ship sizes added in the game ie a medium sized ship that is still 20% harder to hit.

Most mods add extra ship sizes. Ultimate Vehicle Sizes has the most, as should be evident from its name. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Adamant has probably the 2nd or 3rd most sizes of ships, discounting mods that directly incorporate the Ultimate Vehicle Sizes mod.

There is about 0 chance of added ship sizes in the new patch. plenty of mods already do it, and Malfador's focus isnt so much on adding features after this many years. Hopefully the focus is on SE5.
Ships can go up to maxint in KT. somewhere about 65K. you will need to make sure that components dont raise things like hitpoints or shields over that number, which may be problematic since ships tend to have more HP than KT. my old Grit Tech mod (maybe i'll get back to it) didnt add significant numbers of hull types, but it did break them into categories. Essentially small medium and large, with more naval names than that. so of the 9 standard warship sizes in the unmodded game, I had 3 in each Category. Each was its own tech tree, and theoretically had its own advantages and function. Small Ships (ES, FG, DS) were 200-500. Capital Ships (the 3 cruiser hulls) were 1000-2500. Ships of the Line (BB, DN, BA) were 5000-10000. I did run into problems where you could just pack too many components onto the larger ships, but that could probably be fixed with mounts. maybe i'll get back to it someday. |
