OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
Over the Last two weeks or so, I've had a number of cases where Internet Explorer has crashed while I've been on this website, and I can't think of a logical reason for it. I've done the virus checks, etc. Twice, IE locked up my computer completely, and I had to shut down by pulling the plug (off switch on the surge suppressor). I'm using Windows 98. Has anyone else had any kind of trouble like this? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
I never have problems here (assuming the board is up).
The obvious springs to mind: Do all your updates for W98 and IE6. BTW, I'm on IE6 but XP instead of W98. |
Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
how about a nice system defrag

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
I could be other software conflicting. Have you tried removing any spyware / adware? try running Spybot or Ad-aware, or like I do both.

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
There is some virus called "msupdater.exe" that can cause random IE crashes. Try a virus scan!

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
Mozilla Firebird is the way to go. Much better than Opera. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
Those were my thoughts exactly, and I've regularly done the things you describe, except for actually switching browsers. I tend to believe the software conflict scenario, but proving it will take a bit of experimentation. At this moment I suspect Eudora Light (an e-mail program), or possibly one of those recent Windoze updates (did it Last month) of being the culprit. Thanks for the input.

Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
I have all of the WIN98se and IE6 updates.
I do not have the problem. I recently reloaded my operating system. I keep it clean now by cleaning out internet stuff: menus: IE6: TOOLS: INTERNET OPTIONS: buttons: Delete Cookies, Delete Files, Delete History. Without Cookies: I have to log on to this site every time, and I have to remember site passwords. Without Files: Page load times are longer. They do not have Icons and logos stored on my PC. But, I have broadband, so load times do not bother me. Without History: Now, where was I anyway? |
Re: OT: Internet Explorer 6 crashes
Open the Plugin-folder of your internet explorer. Make a backup of the files there and delete them after the backup. Maybe this will ehlp you, some plugins can cause the IE to crash.
