Bugs? Or my idiocy
Allrite so im workin on a mod, im having problems in two particular areas.
Shields, and Armor lets call it, Boob Shields and Butt Armor Boobs shields wont even load Butt Armor only goes up to level 9, I have 17 levels. Loading the game with max tech shows all 17 levels of armor and shields completed. I have custom images that are valid, theres no game errors showing. I checked the .txt files, i have it all configured correctly, tech limit for armor 17, tech limit for... whatever i called the shields accurate. To make it clearer, armor and shields have to load after acheiving a certain tech level in blah construction, i have tech already in that works flawlessley, and i used it accordingly as a template to cut and paste for the techs im workin at now.. Also i checked malfadors site, im using the latest Version of SE Any thoughts? need I post more information? Or is this some weird bug? [ January 29, 2004, 01:47: Message edited by: ChinMonster ] |

Check to see you have have any double spaces in your components file. Double spaces kill.

We need a program from MM that allows us to edit the data files from a program like the map editor with explanations on what each line affects ?
This would be more helpful to the newbies - a third party programmer is welcome to to get to work on it. |

Nope, i checked. Just for grins this is tech im having problem with, actually i classed as warhead, its short range tech im toyin with, im hoping it Posts properly so you can see what I see, save for the bleeps, im uh.. meh why do I even need to hide it? lol, anyway... see for yourself.

There have been a number of such programs made over the years. The most comprehensive is the SE4 Modder by DavidG. Run a forum search for it.
Try removing all of those trailing zeros from the family numbers. Without seeing the files in full, it is very hard to actually tell you what the error is, as it could likely be with something other than the altered select copies you posted. Is there more than one racial trait with the tech area 23? Are you testing this with a race that has taken a trait with tech area 23? [ January 29, 2004, 02:08: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |

Actually i'd toyed with the 000's a number of times already and to no avail, but I will take a look around for the editors, still i don't think that would solve the problem, buuuut worth a shot

23 tech levels - i wish MM would expand the tech levels by default ie research and intel facilities - lower the starting points to 300 then 350 then 400 then 450 then 500 then 550 and in lots of 50 up to 800 points - this would make research progress slower in the game as you would end up with about 10 levels instead of the current 3 and the same with intel projects. Slower research buildup in the game and therefore longer to fully develop all tech levels and longer Lasting games. Just a thoguht.

Are shields listed after armor in the file? If so, it would seem there is either a double space or an error in one of the components between those two items. The best advice is to check again and laugh when you realize what you've missed!
