Modding question

Is there anyway to make Ship Yard Expansions? The limit is only 1 Ship Yard per ship, but is there a way to make a component be able to help build something?

So if I have a standard 500k base at the beginning, give it a bridge, 2 life support, 2 crew quarters, and a shipyard, could I mod a 50k component to chip in a few few hundred extra production?

Everytime I've tried it won't let me add the component, I'm over the '1 shipyard per ship limit'. Is there anyway around that or am I just stuck?

I heard somone was able to pull it off, but I don't know which mod or how.

Thanks!

Re: Modding question

It can be done with facilities. What you do is make one that does nothing, but can be upgraded into a shipyard. Then build the first and hit upgrade..and the new yard adds its production to the old.

P&N and Adamant Mods both have Space Yard Expansions. P&N was the first to have them IIRC. I think there are other mods with them by now. It is impossible to make a Space Yard Expansion for components, but you can do so for facilities, as P-D explained. Check out one of those mods to see exactly how to do it.

Re: Modding question

What about designing a ship with a level 1 component, and make level 2 have the ability - and then use the upgrade design button when level 2 is available or will se4 report the design as illegal?

You have to have a valid ship design to be able to do an upgrade. You can not just add/replace a component on a ship, it has to be upgraded to a complete design. Since SE4 will not let you design a ship with more than one component with the SY abilities, that will not work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Modding question

I don't think you understood.

Level 1 would be a dummy component with X family number.

Level 2 would be the expansion component with X family number.

So you have a legimate design with the level 1 component, and then hit upgrade - perhaps it might get around the requirements in the way that AI designs do??

It won't, since you can't upgrade from a design without a shipyard to one with.

However if you already have a shipyard and this on seperately and try to do this, it might work..

EDIT: nope, it doesn't. SE4 won't let you make the second design to upgrade to.

Oh, I see, I never noticed the upgrade button before in the Ship Design window. I always used the 'copy' button and then manually upgraded the components individually - now that you mentioned the button, I can save some work, thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">No I understood. You can not make a design that has more than one SY, with or without the upgrade button.
