Microsoft, Opera, and PBW

Ok, I am official frustrated. Microsoft's latest patch has forced me back to using Internet Explorer (which really sucks) to get my PBW turns.

I made the mistake earlier tonight of downloading the latest Microsoft security patch. Since doing that I can no longer download and save ANY files from websites using Opera. IE, strangely enough, works fine (that is, it works as crappy as it always did)

For example, I tried repeatedly, using all possible permutations, to get my PBW turns. The files start downloading, and then Opera crashes.

Does anyone have any suggestions what might be wrong that I can try to solve here?

I use Win XP (home) and the latest Opera.

thanks,

Alarik

Have you tried reinstalling Opera?

Yes, reinstall Opera. So long as you haven't actually switched operating systems, that will probably take care of it.

Its a problem - have you tried mozilla ? or netscape more compatible with microsoft - im assuming the open source community will be right on it though.
The patch fixed a database transfer tool that allows data transmission between desparate operating systems.

I had to switch to Netscape after the Last MS patch for win2k. So I feel your pain. MS is about useless in helping to solve the problems there "patches" cause.

About useless is wrong, they are utterly useless. After about a month MS finally acknowledged that their patch had issues, and those issues would screw up many "non" microsft web browsers and on rare occations even IE would be effected. Well I was a rare instance, and had to go to Mozilla which I could not get to work either. Only netscape worked, and I have never looked back.

Has anyone tried to sue MS for these kinds of malicious practices/incompetences. If MS was a hospital, they would be in jail for 2000 years!

Re: Microsoft, Opera, and PBW

Thanks all for the advice. I tried FireFox, it's nice, very similar to OPera, but I really didn't like the way it dealt with a few things, especially downloads and tabs (if it could be set to automatically open new bookmarks into *seperate* tabs, then I might have stuck with it, but I usually cycle through 20-30 bookmarks regularly, and having to "right-clik to open into seperate tabbed window" was too much of a pain).

And, Opera really does have a better layout I think.

So, in the end, I purged Opera, reinstalled it, and I can once again easily download turns from PBW! woo hoo!

thanks again,

Alarik
