Making a Homeworld

Hey Guys,

I am trying the technique mentioned in my Last post of putting ancient technology on your homeworld when making a new map, yet it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone detail EXACTLY how this should be done, or if it can't be done, another way around it?

Thanks,
Griffin Cloud

Ruins can not be on a colonized planet.

So can I just make a moon with the tech on it then? Can I make a colony ship to start out with or would I have to make it in-game?

You can't start out with a colony ship; you need to build it in-game.

My recommendation is to make youre home system with 15 planets and moons all with ruins - then a system linked only into youre system with anothe 15 planets with ruins. Id also chuck in a ringworld there also.

Re: Making a Homeworld

Actually I found out how to do this. This is mainly for roleplaying purposes. My race I designed is called Cadesh (after the Cadesh in the Homeworld series). Their history is that they gained sentience in nebulae across the galaxy. After several advances in manipulating energy across their kind they decided to create a ringworld to call their home, and an orbiting moon to protect it with weapons. This was how I did the ruins thing. In the map editor I had my home(ring)world around a star/asteroid system. Then I placed a tiny moon world around it. ON the moon world I gave ruins with 500 or so tech on it. This will max out your technology. Just build a simple colony ship to colonize in like 2 turns. According to my race's history, they may be a new "empire" but they are ancient and have insane technology, but do not really colonize other systems, unless they built a system themselves. Kind of like Shadows/Vorlons from B5, but I put my own twist on how they interact with the universe. They are happy, benevolent, and artistic. Yet, their propensity to change the galaxy at their whim leaves them many who question their place in the galaxy. So in game, my allies will be rewarded and my enemies will have a HUGE battle to fight, but I won't whomp them in 2 turns, because of the limited systems and planets that are my colonies...

Now THAT'S comedy!

Lord Shleepy that was excellent. I can only hope that someone who sticks around will add that to their sig, so we will have it with us for some time to come.

Oh my...I hope this game involves other human players! Rewarding an AI ally seems like a somewhat melancholy venture...like giving a peanut butter sandwich to a busted laserdisc machine - an underappreciated gesture towards a somewhat dubious partner.
