PBW Game Setup Question (Geo)
 

While setting up a game for Fire and Joachim, I got an error...said I wasn't logged in, didn't enter a game name, or (something else).

Now, I try to use the same type of game name for challenge games that I set up...being anal and computeristic and all...

I use "SE4 Ratings Challenge -" (and the player's names). But since they had already played a game, I assumed I had used that game name before. So, I changed it a bit to look like, "SE4 Ratings Challenge: " (and the player's names). Still, no go.

After several tries, I just gave up and changed it to, "Fire vs Joachim" (with no other changes) and it took it.

So, what's the deal? If no game under that name is currently is in progress BUT has been played before...can that name never be used again?

Thought it might be of use to others to know, so I posted here instead of PM.

Names can be reused once the game is deleted AND purged from the system. Only PBW admins can purge games or even see games that have been deleted but not yet purged, so it's possible there was one there and you didn't know about it.

Also, the same holds for the filename. Both the game name and filename must be unique.

I have also noticed PBW seems to ignore spaces and capitalization and may ignore all non alpha-mumeric characters when it comes to deciding whether or not two game names or filenames are the same. So the game name could look quite different to you, but to PBW it's the same and so won't let you use it.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I am sure there is a length parameter, but I haven't hit it yet and I've used some fairly long game names.
