Help needed to install mods
 

Sorry to aska noob question, but im having problems getting any mods to work.

I am using SE4 gold updated to 1.91.

i have downloaded and tried to install the trek mod and babylon 5 mods, and the mobeus mods from there.

I created sub directories with the names of the mods, and copies all the files there in the structure they arrived in.

I have tried running them both with the mod launcher utility and by changing the path file to point at them.

In each case, i get errors when trying to launch the game. The errors are generated when running the settings.txt file it seems, and they say things like :

game settings data file error

could not find field "asteroids value low percent" in record 1.

this forms a list ending with the

could not find field "fighters can be hit by mines" in record 1.

I dont know what to do to make this work, so any help is appreciated.

Sounds like they may be corrupted, or not in the right format. Try downloading them again. You might have an old Version.

I downloaded all 3 from the PBW site. It seems unlikely all 3 would be corrupted. Am I installing them wrong?

Just a guess: where shouldn't be any nested folders, ie ...se4folder\star trek mod\star trek mod\. Correct path will be: se4folder\star trek mod\ . In teh star trek mod folder you should find a bunch of subfolders: AI, Data, Dsgnname, and so on.

By the looks of the errors, it is finding the data files. However you may be using mods designed for earlier Versions of SE4- I think the B5 mod in particular is made for 1.49.

If you have your SEIV Disk handy re-install SEIV. Sometimes people install OLD SEIV and then apply the update and that causes a lot of problems.

I believe that all of those mods are not compatible with SE4 Gold.

Lots of data file and AI file editing, fixing each error that displays in turn. Then hunting down a post by Capn Q or whatever his name is that has a file linked to in his sig listing ALL changes that need to be made to make a shipset compatible with Gold. Not all of the problems occur when loading the game up.
