OT: Help

I need help in find a way to permently turn off the auto turn on feature of Windows Messenger. Not MS Messenger, but Windows Messenger.

I have disabled it via the Administrative tools, used its own tools to turn it off, and have even tried to unistall it. NOTHING WORKS.

The program always starts when I load my email. Yes I know, evil outlook express. It is now hiding from me and I have to use the TASK window to kill it.

Of course Microsoft has no information on how to turn off this resource hogging, open back door into my system, nor do they recommend it. Why? Because they are MS and they are evil.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you've tried the "clean" methods (your post would indicate you have), and they haven't worked, then the simple, "dirty" method would be to find the executeable and move/rename/delete it. Usually, the executable has the same name that shows up in the task manager, so you can do a search for it fairly readily.

I also believe that the WinXP sp 2 will offer a way to turn it off...I read a blurb today on that...Don't quote me...but you can look it up...

Have you gone into the Services Control Panel and disabled the service? Not just stop it but disable it? AFAIK there are no critical apps that use it....

EDIT: Oh yeah, you did say you disabled it. Is it possible malware turning it back on? That I have seen...

Ahhh, i don't know what is more horrible....

Microsoft Products that are hard to disable or Malware that reactivates Microsoft Products once you disable them.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Personally i've had no trouble with Windows Messenger. Ever since I installed MSN Messenger it's never been seen running since. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I have mine turned off in the service, though you did make me look at task manager just to double check.

But what is Malware btw? yes I live under a rock, a selective rock though.
