Candidate for Dumbest Question award.

Ok, i'm playing a Devnull Gold Game as Troopers Citizen Federation shipset. I've left the General and Speech AI files from the race in the folder along with the images and delted the rest (they're not compatible with Devnull). So i've been happily playing along for 24 turns when i meet a race, go to send them a message and discover the custom speech file isn't working!! All I'm getting is the default Messages. I'm sure you can use Custom Speech files in SP, or am i just suffering from sleep deprivation http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Can you use Custom AI Speech Files in SP? If so how? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

You can customize speech files easily, however you most likely cannot customize your speech file for that game since it is using a default one. You would probibly have to start a new game.

Yeah i thought i wouldn't http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I havn't customized it though. It was the speech file that came with the shipset and it was installed in the pictures/races/starship folder before i started.

And i might have figured out why. All the AI Races have had their selected Minister style as "Using Style From Race" and they're using the speech files they have. I deleted the AI files for my race (except the two noted in my first post) so i selected neutral.

Lo and behold i go to the Devnull AI Folder, click on the neutral folder and check the speech file there. It's using that one. Obviously you have to click "Using Style from Race" under Minister style.

I always wondered what that smegging option was for!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Candidate for Dumbest Question award.

Yeah i think it is, But a lot of mods now include a speech file with the default AI files (the AI Folder). If you select Neutral then it ignores all AI files in the race folder and uses the default neutral ones, In this case not using the Custom AI Speech file. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

At least i think thats what it does http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Either way it's working fine Now, which i'm pleased about http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Hi RG.

You mean the AI file makes SE generate an error message ? That's strange. I knew that there were errors in the file (I had it done by someone else and lost his name, oups... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif ) (wrong tags, "ouremperor" instead of "targetemperor", etc...), but it has never crashed, until now.

I think I'm going to correct it soon. I'll send you the new file, then.

*Waves hands*

No Lol, No errors, I was just curious why the game wasn't loading it and loading the Neutral Speech File from the AI Folder. They work fine as far as i've noticed now i've figured out why (No errors on your part) (I recall some errors in the Pirate Speech File though)

Thanks you For including Speech Files with your races though, Makes everything more interesting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
