Winamp.
I created it using the 2.91 Version.

1) Download the AVS file I linked.
2) Load winamp and hit CTRL-ALT-K to jump to the AVS editor.
3) select load, and clicky the downloaded file.
4) Play a song and watch the pretty colours.

PS: Resize the window until you get a framerate of 15-20 fps for the intended effect.

Note:
Mac has suggested to me that these would make very nice warppoints and stars.
All that's needed is good hand-eye coordination for taking screenshots and then a resizing of the image...

Very cool. That one looks like a nebula with young stars forming in it. This .AVS file is a Winamp plugin?

Yep.

The nebulae one is not much good for idly watching... It just does an iteration of star growth on the beats.

So find a loud bass track to pump it with, and adjust the size of the window untill the formation rate is balanced with the decay rates.
