Massive number of ships??

I was wondering how to get large (and I mean HUGE) numbers of ships in a single player game. I mean something like each player reaching the 20,000 ship limit. Now, such a game would probably be horrible to process each turn, but can you imagine 20,000 ships battling it out?? I think it'd be just great.

Anyways, in such a game, you'd need huge amounts of resources, and I'd prefer to not have a huge galaxy with tons of planets. So I was thinking...could I simply increase the amount of resources each resource extracting facitity produces, say by a factor of 10?? So, for example, a level 1 mineral miner would produce 8000 minerals, instead of 800?? If I were to do that, I should get tons of resources quickly right?? And the ability to build massive numbers of ships too??

Thanks a lot for your assistance.

Re: Massive number of ships??

that would help

or just make homeworld centres that produce 10,000 of each resource,

value improvement for the planet by 3%
storage of 100,000 for each resource
resource converter that converts with 20% loss
reserch ability and intel ability

and to top it off.... have them act as a space port and a resupply port

and have some cargo space as well

Still it will take a long time to build 20 k ships

most i have had is 3000 in a game

with about 30000 units
and that was expensive

also you can decrease the maintence to 1% or something

You might want to increase Space Yard rates as well, so it doesn't take forever to build those ships.

Still going to take at least 20,000 turns divided by the number of space yards in your empire.

The biggest problem with that number of ships is space on the tactical map. It only has a certain number of squares on it after all..

EDIT: in fact the grid is around 63*73, giving a max of 4599 ships in open space with no warp points, planets, etc. And if you do that none of them will be able to move!

Holy CRAP 20k ships lol largest Navy I've ever had is in a game I'm currently playing and that's only about 500 then again the enemy has over 400 as well so it's rather even battle.

Renegade:
You might want to mess a bit with the happiness file. As it is you loose one point (1 tenth of a percent) for each ship lost even if you win the battle. A few battles and both warring empires will be down to riots http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

BTW:
Might be an idea to keep that in mind in RTH2 also. Keeping your guys happy might be the key to victory http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Alright, thanks a lot for the suggestions. Hmmm, i wonder what would happen if you had say 5000 ships in combat?? They wouldn't all have space in the combat area, so what would happen?? An error??

Probably a range check error.

They might just start overlapping, like when you smash one ship into another with a repulsor beam.

When a spot opens up the first nearby guy to move will grab it.
