Colonizing Problem

I have found what I think is a bug when you start a new colony.

Here is the set up.

I adjusted the line in the setting.txt file that gives you some extra population when you colonize a planet. I set it to 5. This helps out in the early game when all I have is the standard colonizers with no extra storage units. The new colony starts out with twice the population.

The problem , ( or Bug) is I recently enslaved, er acquired, some planets with a hydrogen breathing race, I am oxygen . I am now sending out colony ships filled with the hydrogen race to colonize hydrogen worlds. What happens is the colony is established with both my oxygen race and the hydrogen race on a domed planet. I expected that the bonus would be some extra of the race on the colony ship. Not some extra of MY race. I now have to send transports around to these systems to take the extra oxygen breathers off so I can remove the domes.

Is there something I am doing wrong??

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Can this problem be fixed?? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Makes sense, really.

Not very convenient for you with captured population, but it does make sense.

Probably a holdover from SE3, where all the populations were essentially the same.

Er, you mean you get 5M of your race AND 5M of your captured race automatically on each new colony?

Myself, I'd rather see the 5M captured removed, rather than have it put the "right" type on. Alien populations are supposed to be commodities, and not something to expect to have everywhere for zero effort, it seems to me.

If you just want convenience, maybe make Atmosphere ConVersion a one-turn process ability on all facilities.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I don't think so. You could do some weird things (like mod in a cheap spaceyard that can only build a cheap modded space-station that exists solely to jettison cargo...), but sending around population transports like you are doing currently is probably your best bet...

Re: Colonizing Problem

My guess would be that he is getting 5M of his population because of the change in settings.txt, and 4M of the captured population because of the storage capability of the colony component. If you remove the storage ability from the colony component in components.txt, you should get the desired result. If you want to send more pop, use a transport or add a cargo component to the colony ship design (which, if coming from a captured planet, would still give you mixed pop).
