FQM Gas Giant Sizes

To all those that play FQM (especially the Deluxe Version), would it, in your opinion, have negative effects on play balance if all gas giants were to be doubled in facility space?

Actually, you could also answer within the context of FQM Standard, which would be stock SE4 for distribution of planet types and atmospheres. Two separate answers would be nice. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Once my map analyser is done, you'll be able to easily balance out the extra facility slots with fewer numbers.

Re: FQM Gas Giant Sizes

I wouldn't double the space on gas giants. Sure they have more volume, but I'd hazard to guess on most real gas giants, the conditions would nullify most of that extra volume. Plus, it'd be too much of a bonus for gas giant races...

I thought standard was the same as deluxe minus the "pretty" nebulae?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yes. If you want to improve upon FQM Deluxe again, add more nebula pictures http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">FQM Deluxe makes use of the image mod files to add hundreds of new planet, star, etc. images. FQM Standard does not, as doing so makes the maps unusable in stock SE4.

This is not specific to the topic, but I've noticed that FQM Deluxe's nebulae pics are kind of pixel-ish, perhaps from resizing etc. If you have photoshop or a similar program, try to use a blur and it should fix that right up. I've done it with a few with good results.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I think it's a good idea. Then players would have to choose between "quality" and "quantity".

However, make sure that the gas giant player doesn't start out with homeworlds filled with twice as many facilities as everyone else.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Which ones specifically? And how would one go about de-pixelating them?
