Odd Minefield Behavior

In a SEIV 1.49 game, I had one engineless ship left hanging over a planet after a small battle there. My enemy had a few ships several sectors away, and I figured he wouldn't be able to resist such an easy target. I sent a minelayer that just happened to be hanging around outside a nearby warp point to mine it, then leave. I was one sector closer than my enemy, and The minelayer had 3 Minerlayer I components, capable of laying 6 mines.

After the turn ran, I saw that the 6 mines had indeed been laid, but only 2 had exploded, destroying one enemy ship. The other 4 mines just sat there, and the minelayer was destroyed.
The enemy had a minesweeper in the mix, but the remaining mines were not swept until the following turn.

What the heck happened?

You said 1.49 right? I may be way off on this, and please forgive me if I am, but I think the weird thing might have been caused by the fact that you are still playing 1.49. I dunno. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

That was one thought I had, and I sort of assumed it was some kind of bug.

It doesn't matter whether or not it's unique to 1.49. What I really want to know is whether there's any known reason for it, or at least whether or not it's predictable. I can't recall this ever happening before. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

I take it from the lack of response that I'm probably not going to get an answer to this question. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Are you playing your game in Simultaneous movement ?
If so - that enemy ship may have been faster then your Mine Layer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I guess I should have mentioned that this is a PBW game, so yes, the game is simultaneous. According to the designs I've seen, he does not yet have contra terrene engines, but he may have selected populsion experts. I'd need to to check on that.

One of the things I don't like about 1.49 games is that the order of play goes according to the order the game is joined, regardless of circumstances. I suppose that could be the culprit in part. The other player says that 2 of his ships, including the sweeper arrived before the minelayer, and the ship that did get destroyed arrived after the mines were laid, but it still seems as though either the mines should have been swept on that turn, or a second ship destroyed on the following turn. It looked like those ships all came from the same sector.
