OT: Internet Radio Stations
Ok I fire up Windows Media Player and run through the list of radio stations I can listen too and pick one. I start to listen to the radio station and my spyware pest killer starts to go bonkers. Beep, beep, beep, beep.... on and on and on. So I change stations, same thing. I change again and again and again and always the same thing.
The pests are: DoubleClick, Fastclick, advertsing, servedby, and many many more. Why do they do this? Why do they want to infest my computer with their spyware uber crap! And is there a station that I can listen to that won't do this? |
Re: OT: Internet Radio Stations
Solution: uninstall WMP.

Re: OT: Internet Radio Stations
Thanks for that tip, but what about winamp? Does it have radio stations? If so how do you access them. Remember I am computer dumb.

Re: OT: Internet Radio Stations
Yes, it does. Right click somewhere on Winamp. Click on Library in the context menu. Then, go to the Internet Radio section.

Re: OT: Internet Radio Stations
I like accuradio.com - in particular the brit rock channel.
Another option is to look for radio station websites that play the music you like, like edge 102 in Toronto or whatever. |
Re: OT: Internet Radio Stations
For stations that broadcast in Windows Media format only, you might be stuck with WMP. For MP3 or 'shoutcast' WinAmp is ok. For RealMedia you do NOT have to use "RealOne" the RealSpyware player. Get Real Alternative and you can listen to Realmedia ad/spam free. Either of these locations is a good place to get it:
http://www.free-codecs.com/ http://www.codecsdownload.com/ You can also get Quicktime Alternative from these sites and see Quicktime files without Apple getting control of your computer and spamming you with their advertising. (Although when I downloaded 1.33 from here it was corrupted and I had to go searching for a mirror! Hope they've fixed it by now...) BTW, the player installed by Real Alternative and/or Quicktime Alternative is pretty slick. A 'freeware' goody that plays lots and lots of formats if you just have the codecs. It might be able to play WMA files and save you from WMP as well. |
