OT: Anyone trading stocks here ?

Hi everyone,
i was wondering if anyone here is activly trading with stocks. Im trading since 8 weeks and was wondering i others are doing as well.

Im not talking about buying and keeping them for month, but rather buying and selling while keeping for only a few days.
Any items worth mentioning, anything you made good profit with in the Last weeks ?

edit: changed topic to include "OT"

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I own some and used to be more active than I am now but now, I'm just holding. I've learned that, for me, buying and selling stocks is like driving home in rush-hour traffic--the lane I'm in is the slowest and when I get to a lane that was moving faster, IT becomes the slowest. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Don't look at it that way...look at it as a lot of the regulars don't have the money to lose ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ).

Best advice I can give is something I read in a book once: Stick to what you are familiar with. For me, for example, I work in IT, so I have a little more knowledge about things in that "world". (not that it's helped a lot).

So, before I go, let me tell you a little story:

Once upon a time, I bought 300 shares of a little company on the day it went public. Oh, it seems like 10 years ago or so. It did nothing for about half a year and the $4,200 I spent looked like it was doing nothing...so I sold at a loss of about $500 and left it. That stock was AOL...and today, had I left it, it would be worth over $100,000 (with splits and growth)... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

It's all I have to remind me that I DO (or did) have some ability to pick a stock but just didn't stick with it. One of the best stocks I owned was Veriphone (and sticking to my insight as I mentioned, I was involved in some electronic transfer stuff at work and it hit me that this was a major player in stuff to come). The stock rose well and then got bought out (for a good profit).

Right now, I'm stuck in Sun and Intel (for 2 of my stocks). I almost bought 10,000 shares of Sun when it was around $2 per share but I was scared. Had I done it...well, doesn't take a genius to look at Sun at 4 right now and compute roughly a $20,000 profit.

I was just beginning to look into that and some precious metals purchasing. Then the economy flip-flopped on me (Im in the US, California). Now its all fighting to get/keep jobs, and hang on to what I already have. Hopefully later I can look at it again later since it seems like the kind of "game" Id like to play.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well, as a lot of people advise, "playing in stocks" should only be done if you count the money as lost to begin with. Not bad advise. At to precious metals...it's beyond me. I bought 4 ounces of gold about 15 years ago and it's still about the same as it was then. Of course, having 4 ounces of metal in your home safe isn't the same as "playing that market". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well im mainly "investing" with about 3500 $ since the end of march. At first i lost about 300 $ but the Last days were quite good and now i have about 250 $ more than i started with. Today i bought 6700 stocks of a gold mining company, i guess i will sell it as soon as i get 2 or 3% more value, which will give me another 50 or so dollars to toy with http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I think that's GOOD! I think, but don't pay attention to me (!), looking at making a few hundred dollars every few days is a good way to go...I think it's when you get greedy (looking for the big haul) that you get burnt.

In other words...settle for a small bit of growth. Much better than losing!
