Newborn race?
When ypu create an empire I notice it always says newborn. How does a created race become "old"?

Re: Newborn race?
I think you have play with the same race in several games. I think it's supposed to be a way to measure how much a player has used a certain race. I never use the same race twice as I find it annoying having alot of ship designs I can't build because I lack the tech for them. I just remake the race.

Start a game with "Player Technology" set to high and place the race you want to play in it. Then design ship and unit designs you like to use and don't feel like making new designs every game. Voila, preset designs for your games. I get all my colony ship designs set up and my basic population transport using this method. That and mines, a fighter and some other stuff I tend to use. |
Re: Newborn race?
Since I like to play low tech or medium tech games most of the time saving the empire really messes up the ship design area. It seems that any designs I have obsoleted are discarded for the saved race so the only designs left are ones that I won't get to for many game years. There was supposed to be some benefit to having acquired experience points by playing over a few games but I haven't tried that yet. So for now I just save the race on the first turn after I have designed a basic colonizer and have set the empire options the way I like them.

And I find it very annoying to have to wait for next year (game time) for the empty obsolete designs to go away. I have problems with this because I use same design names in very game I played, Armed Scout 1, Transport S1... etc. (Not very creative, I know. But who else is gonna see them? The AIs? oh, please...) Why can't we just "delete" those unused designs? |
Re: Newborn race?
You can click on "hide obsolete" and they won't show up anymore just as good as deleting them. I usually just edit the designs I don't have enough tech for and just replace the tech until it works. This is faster than doing it again from scratch as most of my designs use about the same amount of everything.
