Challenge to FYRON
We've discussed this before, several months ago. But nothihg has happened. We discussed ability. We disagreed.
So, I'm willing to lay my playing ability on the (public) block. You quote stats, rules, and game parameters. But how well do you really play? I never looked at any of the files. I just play by what seems the best thing to do. Hence, I am forever lacking in the ability to answer questions about the game. Nevertheless... I challenge you to either of the following: (1) 3 GOOD planets, Geo's Balanced mod, medium spiral, 2000 racial points. All else KOTH standards. or (2) 1 GOOD planet, Geo's Balanced mod, medium spiral, FULL tech, 2000 racial points. All else KOTH standards. Map to be set by Geo. (sorry, Geo http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif ) Awaiting your response (or excuse). Feel free to offer a counter proposal. Addendum...a thread posting game updates every 10 turns. (for anyone interested) PS: We've discussed a game between us before and you put it off for reasons. So, is now a good time or...are there other reasons you can't accept? |
Re: Challenge to FYRON
You caught me in the later stages of a university quarter Last time. Definitely no free time then. I have time now, though there will be a delay in a few weeks time due to vacation...
What is Geo's Balanced Mod? Definitely not full tech... ugh. What, specifically, are KOTH Standards? |

Koth settings can be found here: Koth Page The Geo balance mod is the map creator that does 4 of each planet type in a system and one of each atmosphere type, so you get 1 breathable and 3 non-breathable in every system, they are all 100/100/100. There are no moons, or non-atmosphere planets. There are also no asteroid systems, nebulaes, black holes, space monsters, etc. It removes the luck factor of the map but I personally find it boring knowing what is through every warp point (except for the mines and the enemy of course http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). But it does allow you to focus on managing your economy with a lot of precision because of the predictablity in colony numbers, value and type. |
Re: Challenge to FYRON
What is this, Fyron accepting a challenge game? Total shock! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Challenge to FYRON
Well, first I must apologize to Fyron. With a little beer, my challenge may have been worded with (1) a bit too much arrogance and (2) an insinuation that he was, hmmmmm, afraid to play me. To be fair, I've always figured my ability to be above average. Certainly not in the Rex/Asmala/Alneyan/Primitive/Stoney Category (to name a few that come to mind immediately). And by referencing the reading of the files...I was only mentioning that I don't (for some unknown reason--people have to keep cutting and pasting bits and pieces of them for me to read http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif ). I just play by feel and what I've learned. 2 people who regularly study the "files", Asmala and Alneyan, are both great players and I was wondering if Fyron fell into the same Category.
The Last time I asked about a game between us, he was in a lot of games and was quite busy...so I don't want readers to think he was "scared" to play me. There's a good chance he would win a game between us and a possibility I might reap some additional knowledge by playing someone good that I've never played before. So, consider my challenge, hmmmmm, "toned down". I don't want people to read the thread and categorize me as some sort of arrogant "blowhard". |
