AI knows trick

In SE3 I would make a treaty with a race, send in a builder ship and build starbases around their homeworlds. Then attack and capture homeworlds.

The AI just pulled this trick on me for the first time ever.

In a conflict with another race, my allie while attacking the enemy, sent a huge fleet to my homeworld to refuel. Since I had asked them to attack a planet in the next system and they said they would.
I figured the fleet was for that attack.
As it turns out as soon as they resupplied off my planet. they sent in a small set of ships to attack the target planet. They then broke the treaty with me and took my homeworld.
I was taken by complete suprise, I had not seen the AI pull this before until I got se4.
But they only did this after I had pulled the same trick in the game eariler on the race we were fighting.

Another surpise from the AI.

While expanding in a new game, I had just finish colinizing and getting my space yard and depot build when a AI race entered my system as a new contact.
they had a fleet of 3 destoryer ships.
sent a miltary treaty. I accepted. 2 turns later they resupplied at my depot droped the treaty, delcared war. the next turn they took my planet.
This war is now on 4 days of play and neither I or the AI seems to be able to gain any ground.
best AI fight I have had so far.

What settings/mods do you use? I have never seen the AI do anything like what you describe.

The AI has acted in a similar manner several times in my games. In fact, it has gotten to the point where I assume that they will be declaring war on me when a fleet parks over one of my worlds.

I have not modfied the AI's yet. Still figuring out things so I am just using the default settings with AI at mid. Have not tried AI at high yet.

I too had the AI form a military alliance, resupply, then hit my planet. Fortunately, being a naturally suspicious type (and knowing that he was displeased with me), I has built 60 ftrs on the planet and they took out his four destroyers. Bit of a surprise though that it was that devious.....

The same thing almost happend to me. In the early stage of game, I just colonize and build defensive satellite's. No warship is constructed before the first contact anless their's no contact for the first 40-50 turns or so. Now, due to my lack of ships (I had not been into more than 1 war, wich the AI quickly regreted and offered me peace. due to the small fleet in the region, hardly able to defend the colony the where orbiting over I accepted. For more than 75 turns they've had a treaty with me, and their mood is still murdeuros!) Now, due to the lak of ships the Toyltoan (or whatever they're called) was in first place. And my partnership comrades. Now, when 12 of their ships entered a newly taken low defended system (atleast not defended to take 12 ships!) I got a little worried. BUT what saved me was tht ALL my Starship contructing worlds made a light cruiser design in 1 turn each (Emergency build and SY II) This resulted in my going from 5th to 1th in 3 turns(!) He withdraw his fleet like nothing happend. Now, I can kill the terrans to Last planet http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
