OT : Identity chip
I caught at the end of the news a report on new chips available that can be implanted in the shoulder. They are much like the identity chips you put in your pets in case they get lost. With one of these chips your house can know where you are. When you enter a room the light will go on. When you approach a door at work, if you have clearance it will open for you, and if you are in an acccident a quick scan will give your medical information (such as allergies or conditions). I think its a great idea, but my mother says its the beginning of big brother. Whats your opinion?.

Re: OT : Identity chip
Bad idea - there are non-invasive ways to detect someone in a room (e.g., IR - look for an 80+ degree hotspot) or carry such medical info (bracelet), and it's just plain stupid to base security around a permanently installed chip that can be read from a distance such that it is convienient to use it for room access when in the shoulder - it could also be read by anyone nearby - like that spy you wanted to keep out - he reads the data off one of your employees while passing in a public location, loads the data onto a chip-emulator, and waltzes straight through security (sensors picked up the ID of an employee with proper access, and opened the door).
Sure, there are ways around the security issues - but do you really want talking billBoards that read your name and call out to you specifically? Do you really want the possibility of you being tracked and logged everywhere you go without you knowing about it? That, and the whole "chip on your shoulder" thing, and the hints of the mark of the beast. |
Re: OT : Identity chip
It's not the beginning of 'big brother', it IS 'big brother'.

Re: OT : Identity chip
NFW! Nuff said. (For defination of NFW, think of WTF, except N = NO, and W = Way, with the F =ing, well you know.)
OH HELL NO, not in my life. Before they put one of those things in my body, they will have to kill me or heavily sedate me under force. WHAT in the world would you ever want with something like that in your body? A human LO-JACK system is a horribly bad idea even for the Military. Now watch it become the new fad. "Need to find little Jimmy, well if he had the Human Lo-Jack, you would know right where he was. In the hands of a sex offendeing mass rapest murder thats where little Jimmy is now, but you don't know that because you don't have the Human Lo-Jack." Sick sick sick idea.................. But people will buy into this crap and start lo-jacking their kids just like they do their pets. |
Re: OT : Identity chip
happilly this will never happen (i hope) in Brazil, because our constitution stablishes that no one can offend the physical integrity of a person (even himself) without a valid medical reason (and implanting a chip in the arm definitively IS NOT a valid medic reason), so any parent that try to implant this kind of chip in a child can be prosecuted...
so, if you wish to scape from the Big Brother, come live in Brazil... |

"I haven't lost my mind, it's backed up on tape."
When I can put my identity on a chip, then I'll be interested. |

Re: OT : Identity chip
Yeah, according to brazilian law you can be prosecuted for trying suicide, but normally the only punition for this is a psichyatric treatment...
But if you offend the Physical integrity of another person, then your punition is more severe... So, in the case you go to the doctor to implant a chip in yourself, you will be punished (just a small punition, like doing community service), but the doctor (and clinic) that did the implantation will answer for the more severe crime, and can even lose their medical license... And, before you ask, if someone else than a doctor make the implantation, then he will answer for a more severe crime yet "Illegal Exercise of Medicine", and can go to jail... |

Re: OT : Identity chip
I would never agree to have a chip like that implanted in me. I'll carry around cards and things with me if I need to for ID purposes and so on but I refuse to have something like that embedded in my body.
