Modding question

Does all mods always have a modinfo.txt?
If I'm making a program that uses mods, do I have to have a backup system for naming mods, ie grabbing the path name instead of the name from the modinfo.txt file.
All my mods have a modinfo.txt but I don't know if it's a universal truth.

Re: Modding question

99% of them have this file. I saw only 2 mods without modinfo.txt: Deathstalker mount mod (which is single file) and Graumod.

Re: Modding question

Such a file is generated automatically by the Mod Launcher for any mod that does not have a modinfo.txt already. It would probably be best to design your program to mimic the modinfo.txt functionality of the Mod Launcher exactly. No point in creating multiple files in there...

Re: Modding question

I was just thinking of using the Last bit of the pathname as name if I don't find the Modinfo.txt, but it would perhaps be easier to make one and insert that name. Will do that, thanks for the tip.
I've incorporated your idea about plug-ins aswell, not that it removes any functions, but it's easier to add new ones http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Not what you where after I guess http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

The proggie owes a lot of it's look to the Launcher already so why not.
(Not colors and such but the listbox with games is similar, the companion is a bit more boring windows standard type program now).

EDIT:
I can add one when the user adds a mod manually, but the autofunctions searches for the modinfo.txt when it looks for mods.
I see that the modlauncher makes modinfo.txt files for every subdirectory in the mods directory, i wondered before why some of those directories had those files when they obviously wasn't mods http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif
So autosearch will just search for modinfo.txt as it will search the entire path under the game directory and not just the mods directory, but it will be possible to add other mods manually and then a modinfo.txt will be manufactured by the program.
