Well, what browser is it happening in?

Presumably all sites...

Have you tried right clicking and doing a save-as?

Netscape 7.1. That might have helped.

I tried the Fantasy Empires Mod download in Spoon's sig, the PBW site for same and tried to download an e-book from baen. In addition, I tried saving a .jpg

Yep.

Well, try a different browser and check for spyware/hijackers.

ie's download is working. I've started Ad-Aware. How would I look for hijackers?

Oh yeah. When I right-click, it goes to the save as window, but clicking save does nothing.

Well, adaware is a good start, spybot is a good teammate for it as well.

You could try hitting CTRL-ALT-DELETE, and checking to see what processes are running.
Google for the ones you don't recognize and post 'em here.

Contemporary viruses and trojans are actually smart enough to hide themselves from the built-in task list. You need something 'non-standard' to check for them that way. Unfortunately, the problem being discussed is inability to download so I don't know how you'd acquire something like Powertoys or Kerneltoys with some extra Windows snooping tools (from the MS Programmers themselves, no less!) with that problem in the way.

With Fyrons advice i got my friend to download the firefox installation file and send me it via MSN Messenger and installed it, i soon spent many hours removing internet explorer from my computer and haven't used it since.

I too have followed Fyron's advice and have been using Firefox for a while now, and I'm very happy with it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Netscape is the only thing that can't download. everything else, including ie, is downloading fine. Where are these things?

As for SJ's processes idea, I don't recognize most of the stuff there.
