Help! Newbie question about not getting research from AI players!
 

When I agree to a TRADE ALLIANCE AND RESEARCH treaty, I'm not getting any of their research! Also, I notice that the AI players have sometimes stopped giving me the 20% trade! How can they do this if they agree to a TRADE ALLIANCE treaty or a TRADE ALLIANCE AND RESEARCH treaty? ( And how can I do the same to them!)

I have played MANY turns and have at no time during the game when I was in a TRADE ALLIANCE AND RESEARCH treaty have I EVER received ANY of their tehnology! I was getting 20% of their trade each turn for many turns. I happened to check that screen one turn and saw I was getting 0% trade so I demanded they start paying their debts and the very next turn, I started to receive my trade again!

Just as a point of clarification. Trade and Reasearch Alliance does not get you any of "their technology". Trade alliance gets you up to 20% of their Construction Points each turn (value increases towards 20% over time) and Trade and Research Alliance gets you up to 20% of their Construction Points and Research Points each turn (value increases over time).

IF you want to get actual technology from them, you have to trade for it, ask for it, or demand it.

To do any of these, use the Politics screen and look under "Ask for gift" or "Demand"
(sorry, I don't have the game open right now).

I don't know of any reason that you would suddenly stop getting the 20% in trade.

Well, it takes time for the amount to increase. maybe you should wait for a few turns... (otherwise, i have no idea)
As for the missing 20% trade, it might have been affected by an AI's intel project. So the trade might seem to be gone for a turn.
