How do I Upgrade ships and other things ?
 

Ok my ship is at a space yard....how do I get it upgraded ? How can I upgrade existing (on planet) planet weapons platforms?

You can upgrade ships using the icons in the right portion on the screen. I play the game in 1024x768 resolution and then it's the icon in the upper row counting from the right to the middle # 9 (looks like a green tree?). Upgrading is only possible if you have upgraded a design in the designs screen. And if you have enough resources to pay for the upgrade. It is NOT possible to upgrade weapon platforms (cargo). Only facilities can be upgraded, after you have researched them, in the build qeue screen.

Just to offer another explaination.

You need your ship to be at a planet with a shipyard. Then select your ship and click the "Scrap, Analyze, Mothball" icon, (it looks like three arrows in a triangular pattern)

Then select your ship again (only one at a time) and click the "Retrofit" button. You'll then get a screen that shows the possible ship designs that you can convert your ship into.

There is a limit to how much of an upgrade you can do, based on the cost of the ship. If the new design costs way more than the current one it won't let you do the retrofit.
