strewth
Hi guys, here's a new one:
1: everything on AI 2: one warp point to holifax system which contains a black hole 3: added holifax to 'sytems to avoid' list 4: lose 6 ships cause the AI sends them through the warp point to the black hole WTF is going on with the AI. ------------------ ever started at the bottom of life's ladder, climb to the top only to find your leaning against the wrong wall |
Re: strewth
The AI has no concept of "Danger, don't go there" and will lose alot of ships in black holes and mine fields.

Re: strewth
This has always been around. Didn't you wonder why the AI always has damaged ships and goes through the damaging wormholes? Even if you set up systems to avoid your ministers and the AI ignore that. Its a known bug but one that hasn't been squashed yet.
My guess is its too hard to do that so far because what if that damaging wormhole is the only way out of an AI system? Does that AI have to just sit there untill it researches and builds a wormhole opening ship? Since even damaging warp points are considered a connection the AI as it stands wouldn't research stellar manipulation and if it couldn't go through that damaging wormhole if it is the only path it would just sit there like the neutral empires. This would especially hurt the AI in ancient galaxies (like they need more problems there) because it would be more likely to occur. To fix this the AI would have to have some command to never use them UNLESS they were the only path and if so they should start researching stellar manipulation. So far making decisions isn't one of the highlights of the current AI. |
Re: strewth
Sounds like the AI needs to be programmed to add more armour to its ships if it needs to move through them....Thats what the rest of us do.......
Also, it probably needs to to be programmed to build and use repair ships. Anyone ever seen an AI player with a repair ship (ie a ship equipped with at least one repair bay)? |
Re: strewth
Yes, check out the Darloks!! Although they don't use repair ships like humans would use them (i.e. seek out damaged ships). They will incorporate one component in their defense ships (CA and higher). This effectively means that the defense fleets are self-repairing.

Re: strewth
Well the armor would be on every ship and the repair ships would wander around by themselves and be destroyed. The biggest problem isn't in the design of the ships but their actions. The design can be improved but without at least a little memory and knoledge of its surroundings it will always make bad decisions. Its wandering in the dark even when its been there before. Sometimes I wonder how they remember to start the ships engines before they leave orbit.

Re: strewth
That's because they don't assign a crew or captain since they plan to upgrade the ship with a master computer. However, they end up launching it without adding the computer with only a few of the construction crew on board.

----Ship's log, stardate 2411.5-----
Chief Plumber's assistant Grog, acting captain. It's been four weeks since our Imperial Minister A'i orderered our immediate and premature launch from Neckron VI. We have managed to finally finish the hull plating on deck's 6 through 8 and have got the environmental controls back on line. Onfortunatley our departure from space dock was so hurried that the Food Service Ministry had not yet yet outfitted our galley with more than a 8 day supply of meals. We have been living off emergency rations since then. On the bright side, Elctricians mate third class Tonus has discovered a group of Tach'tars living in the ventilation ducts on deck 12. We expect to be able to find enough of them to eat well for another week an a half. I am nominating Tonus for a field promotion. Our repeated comunications to the Ship Control Ministry have only been answered by the same cryptic response. "Move to Altair sector 5,1, Explore" |
