Capital Ship Missile Bug
When editing the components file long ago, I noticed that the Capital Ship Missile is supposed to make a sound when it fires, but I've NEVER heard it. Until today that is. I was replaying a battle and was more than a little surprised when my missile-heavy ships made noise when they fired. Apparently the sound works in the Combat Replay but not the regular combat screen. Has anyone else had this happen?

Re: Capital Ship Missile Bug
Yeah, I have the same situation here. I have noticed this when I started making my mod.
It's nothing critical but it would be nice to see the fix in some distant future. I just hope the beta-testers are aware of this too. |
Re: Capital Ship Missile Bug
Speaking of missles I hate to open up a can of worms like this but why do they always hit if they have a hit percentage listed when they are fired? As far as I can tell they will never miss so why does it show a hit percent? I think its OK that they don't miss because of their vunerability to ships running out of range and point defence but the chance to hit percentage being displayed has always bothered me a little. Their actual percent to hit would be hard to calculate ... Lets see there is a 50% chance the point defence will target this particular missle and a 90% chance it will hit it and a 25% chance the ship will move out of range before the missle gets there. Quite a few variables to keep track of there.

Re: Capital Ship Missile Bug
I have used missles extensively and have never seen them miss a target that stayed in range. Have you? Even with a 1% chance to hit they always hit except when the target either moves out of their range or the missles are destroyed by point defence. Sometimes it looks as though the missles have missed when the target has moved to the extreme range of the missles and the missles hit for 0 damage is that what you mean? If so watch that very closely and count the distance the missles have traveled from where they were fired and the place it hit and I am sure you will see the target was actually out of range at that time. It is easy to see that distance just see how many turns the missles move X the distance they move per turn and the distance of their Last move to the target.

Re: Capital Ship Missile Bug
I think the "percent to hit" part is really the calculation for direct fire weapons. For some reason, it treats the missile as a direct fire weapon in that little box.
Confusing, but I don't know if it's really worth it to remove it. ------------------ -- "What do -you- want?"
