Massive Base Mount Weapons.

Are the massive base mount shield accelerator V and Mental singularity V supposed to only do a maximum of 999 damage?

I think they put in a per-weapon damage ceiling, across the board at 999 or so -- large planetary napalm, for instance, doesn't do 1k each anymore.

For a starbase, you might actually therefore use older Versions of certain weapons if they're cheaper, since w/ the damage multiplier you can get up pretty high...

If that's so its bad. Take all those nice massive weapons you can find in ruins that can only fire one shot. The massive shield depleter for instance. If it can't do more then 999 damage then it doesn't do what it promises. If the target has more than 1000kT of shields it's not capable of depleting and that's what it's supposed to do. And getting 1000kT+ shields aint all that hard.

True. Off-hand I don't see a clear reason for a damage cap; nor do I remember seeing it mentioned in History.txt.

*shrug*

But a starbase can STILL be extremely nasty. Put on a few massive base-mount ionic dispersers (should be something like 120kt or 150kt each, range *12*, one hit will destroy all engines on a ship, fires every turn). If feeling really paranoid, add massive tachyon and repulser beams....

(ADDED: Actually, the range isn't worth that much except for Religious races, because there's no corresponding accuracy bonus as far as I can tell; trying to hit at range 12 yields 1% or so when Sensors == ECM, which isn't exactly helpful. But for a Talisman-equipped base, the extra range *will* be terrifying. And, the Repulsion does scale -- e.g. flinging a ship back 28 squares.)
