How do you \'fleet\' ??
 

I've never played any Versions of Space Empire and the manual leaves a lot to be desired for a new game player. This forum has helped answer some question.

Do I need to do anything special to make a fleet? - besides stack a bunch of ships on the same space. I've gone into combat and controlled the individual ships but they aren't in any formation- and talks about formations lead me to believe I don't have any fleets- just a bunch of ships in the same space.

I believe you can assign the ships to a formation when you are in/before combat. I think it can be done on the ORDERS menu. I haven't played much with formations, etc. I would rather move each ship individually.

If you have a vessel selected, one of the buttons in the 2nd row of the horizontal button bar will light up. It looks like two triangular-hulled ships with a plus sign. Click on this and it will bring up a window with two panes and a command list on the right. The leftmost pane contains unassgned vessels and the right pane contains any "fleets" and, indented, the component vessels. The top button is used to create a "fleet" in that hex. Fill in the new name and transfer vessels.

Once a fleet is formed you can exit back into the game. From here, select the fleet and click any one ship in the list of vessels. That vessel will be designated the "fleet" leader, which is important for formation operations.

Narlotep
