No strange Warp points et al
I remember playing the demo and seeing strange warp points - ie smaller warp points et al.
I have been playing 1.11 for a while now and have seen no WP other than normal large ones I am playing on Mid-Life galaxies if that has something to do with it. BTW, what is the difference between Mid-Life galaxies and Ancient ones. PS - Bugs? when you have you have a fleet with low supply in a sector with one of your stations, have the station join the fleet for a turn. Its 'Endless' supply resource will be 'shared' with the fleet in that turn and will replenish the fleet, to no detriment of the station. When you remove the station from the fleet you will have a freshly resupplied fleet with no need for a resupply base, albeit with a little more micromanagement than having one. BTW if you have 2 fleets with different formations, leaders, tactics in one sector and they are attacked you have 2 fleets in the tactical combat. There is, AFAIK no way to send 2 fleets simultaniously into an enemy held hex at the same time. Combining them would make it so you would have to micro manage the fleets on the firs turn and that is cumbersome at best (the group # icons are microscopic that you have to click on). Has anyone found a way around this? |
Re: No strange Warp points et al
The huge mid-life galaxy in the game I'm currently playing has a black hole system with all the warp points to it as those screwey damaging kinds. Unfortunately, it's right next to my home system, so I have to go the long way around it all the time to avoid damage.
I think Ancient galaxies have a lot more "cruddy" systems with black holes and nebulas and asteroid rings, instead of planet systems. If you look in the data files (I think it's SystemTypes.txt or StellarTypes.txt or something like that), you can see what the percentages are for the different system types, for each galaxy type. I don't think the base resupply effect is a bug. When you put a quantum reactor on a ship, it will have endless supply, and putting that ship in a fleet will supply the other ships in the same way. It is a pain to have to micromanage the fleet thing to get a base to resupply a ship - and it also takes a turn, whereas the resupply depot is (mostly) instant. I wish that there was a ship/base component that would let a base work just like a resupply depot, instantly resupplying ships that enter the sector containing the base. I tend to micromanage my ships in tactical combat, so I don't use the formation stuff at all and can't say much about that. |

If you select both and the movement takes more than one turn, they will move separately after the current turn. I know this works for ships, and I'm pretty sure I've used it for fleets as well. |

And if the first fleet to arrive doesn't include the minesweepers that could get ugly. As a matter of fact it could get ugly even it does include minesweepers. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif [This message has been edited by Jubala (edited 01 December 2000).] |
Re: No strange Warp points et al
Are you sure they don't get there at the same time? I haven't tried attacking that way but for the first turn if you select them while holding down the shift key they sure look like they are moving together. If you have them move further than their movement range for one turn the next turn they will not move together though so once again its a micromanagement issue.

Re: No strange Warp points et al
I haven't actually tried it with fleets, but if I do it with two ships the first one moves alone and then the second one moves on the same path to the same location. I did it once with several ships and it took som time for them to move so now I have turned off movement animation and set movement speed to high and always put two ships or more in fleets if they are going the same way.
