Upgrade Weapon Platforms

Is there something I am missing on unit upgrades? I can upgrade them in the design window,but when I go to my planets and want to turn them into the new upgrade I find I can't. Also as a fifty five year old gamer I have to say that to me this is the best strategy game ever on my hard drive. I think it is way more involved then even the great Alpha Centuri by Sid.

You can't upgrade the following:
- Mines
- Units
- Satelites
- Weapon Platforms
So, in effect, if it's not a ship or a facility, you have to replace it in its entirity...
