New options
Hey I was thinking of additional options to have. How do these ideas sound.
1. The ability to contact the enemy during ship combat. Kind of like the way BotF does. You could try to end combat. 2. Have real soldiers. Not just tanks or robots. And the abiltiy to fortify your planet for bombardment. 3. Area effecting weapons. Like the wave motion gun from Star Blazers. Something that does damage to a 4x4 or 5x5 area. 4. Warp gate and jump gate technology like in Babylon 5. 5. How about the ability to travel accross open space instead of using warp points. Just some ideas. |
Re: New options
2 - abstractly, troop units may include soldiers and such as well as tanks. fortifications would include building weap plats, which i believe are damaged before facilities. you can shield or armor them. later you can shield planets.
4 - actually you do have bab-5 style jump gates, except there is no hyperspace, they look a bit different, and one gate cant lead to any other gate. such an implementation would probably do bad things to the strategy side of the game as it stands. as in b-5, higher tech levels will allow you to construct your own jump gates, and you can move a jump creator with a fleet to efectively let it jump at will. 5 - dude, how many hundreds of years (thousands of turns) would that take? I kind of like the vga planets setup, but i dont think that this game can even support something like that though. it sounds like you should checkout VGA Planets 4, i think its out in beta now. maybe final. it does most of what you talk about, and alot more. but it isnt very user friendly and you need to keep a large papertrail in the physical world to keep track of whats going on. I like 1 and 3 though. but for 1, how would you do it in strateic combat? would it be based on some criteria, and could you start a stragic battle with a fight to death order? could be cool. 3 should definitly be doable by adding a radius command to damage. like, at range 5 a weapon does 30 damage with radius 3, at range 8 it does 20 damage with radius 2. could be worked, but would certainly require a patch.
