IIRC you currently gain access to components and research fields by reaching a new level of research in 1 field.

Are there any componets/fields that require obtaining a certain level in more than 1 field?

Is it possible to make a mod that does this?

It would make mixed components (see other post) more plausible.

And yes it I know it was like this in Stars! and Civ II,etc.. but it also works that way on good old planet earth.

There are some components which require more than one tech area. Small stuff, for instance; small engines require both the Propulsion tech and some level of Fighters. Rocket Pods require Small Weapons and Missiles. Outside of small stuff... hrmmm, none come to mind. Do Heavy Carriers require Ship Construction as well as Fighters? Hrm.

However, ISTR that at least for an earlier Version, it's been reported that tech areas couldn't have more than one pre-req area.

There are components that require more than one tech level to be researched. Mostly the 'small' Versions in the default set, but I've added many custom components (and facilities) that require more than one tech level. This works fine. There is a bug of some sort with tech fields themselves that require more than one prerequisite tech area. The game just won't accept the file for some reason. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next patch.

Ya, I forgot about 'small' weapons Version component. So I guess now I'll actual have to crack open the text files and start mod'ing.
