7 engine bug
 
Has anyone else seen this? The Cryslonite has a Light Cruiser running around in my game with 7 engines. I tried to make one that way myself and got a warning so it wouldn't let me build it. I saved the game at that point and will E-mail it to Malfador after the Holidays. I did make a few changes to some files but the only one that affected the engines was to slightly increase the supply storage. It was using Ion engines III which in my game holds 600 instead of 500 supplies could this have caused it? Well I am playing with a small bonus to the AI but I didn't think that extra engines were a part of the bonus http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif. It does give them quite a boost in power they are in second place and have Crystallurgy and fast ships quite a combination. they also have a 9 ship fleet one system away from my furthest colony. Hopefully my fleet gets there first.

Well I am pretty sure it was my modification that caused this. I looked at the computer empires designs from this game and the game before I made the modification. The computer was for some reason replacing the supply storage units on their design with an extra engine instead. Maybe because my level 2 engine has 550 supplies and a level 1 supply storage unit has only 500 http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif.

Well here it is if you want a more challenging game this mod will give your opponents a speed advantage in battle with some of their ships. The ones that are already propulsion experts move very fast now. It only seems to happen in light cruisers and above.

Did you make your modification after you started the game? Doing that often ****s the components all out of wack. Even ships that have already been built will have differant components if you edit the component files after starting a new game. I know, cause I did it to see what would happen. I was not happy with the results.

No I started a new game after I had made the modifications. I should have known that the changes I made caused the problem but I didn't figure out how to check the other race designs out in the game until after I posted the "bug" report. Turns out I was the bug or maybe a virus that infected the program in a way.

Reminds me of an old computer joke about the problem being the interface between the keyboard and the chair.
