Where\'s teraforming?

I just thought of this. SE IV currently has nothing like teraforming. In the next patch, there should be a ship component that allows you to change the atmosphere of a planet to the kind your race lives in. It could be low level tech area since it's not a very complex idea.

They are not shipcomponents, they are planetary components you have to research. There are atmosphere converters, climate converters and value inprovement facilities. You research planetary engineering then individual facilities after that under planetary utilization: 1st is climate, then value added, then atmosphere conVersion IIRC.

I was thinking of a stellar manipullation thing that would instantly change a planets conditions. It would be good for colonization and as a weapon to ruin your enemys colonise.

Not a bad Idea there Mako, but it would have to cost a ton in KT. Somthing in the order of 2000KT. This would limit its availablity to Starbases. The player would have to construct a Starbase in orbit, and then terraform the planet over time. Say 10 turns or so. Not a bad idea.

Maybe a comp. that stripped all atmosphere away from a planet. A bomb that made at the gases in the atmosphere precip to the planet surface, not like rain but as a solid. Like in high school chem, with sodium and cloride? or something. This is easier to imagine with rock/ice than with gas giants, but could be very nasty, especially if you choose none for atmosphere type.

Re: Where\'s teraforming?

For offensive use, there's an intel op which hurts planetary conditions (can take them straight to Harsh or Deadly sometimes; not even sure anymore if Deadly can be changed, or whether it simply takes more than 50 turns or so w/a CCF III).

A ship component probably shouldn't be faster than the facility; in fact, it should probably be slower due to size constraints...

The starting tech area of planetary weapons has a bomb that hurts planet conditions. It works remarkably well too. Combined with plague bombs you can render whole systems unusable. It's not as good as bLasting them to asteroid fields, but it's dang close and can be done in the first year.
