Trading Racial Technoligies?
 

Does anyone know if it is possible to trade racial technologies? Can an empire offer organic technology for crystalline technology, for example?

I don't think you can, but even if you can, it cannot be used unless that race has the same racial trait.

You can trade ships that have the racial components on them, but you still can't analyse for the technology.

...and, annoyingly enough (but perhaps reasonably) you won't be able to refit the ship at all unless you replace all the non-understandable components, IIRC; you can't make a design with tech you don't understand, and refits are between classes, not parts.

Hence, if you're not Psychic and capture a nice ship with things like Allegiance Shifters and other psychic foo, but Ion Engines I http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif, you can't have it both ways; either you keep the slow engines, or lose the psychic gear. And so forth.

But you can trade the SHIPS with the technology on them and use the technolgy that way. However, you cannot analyze them (and get the tech) or repair them (the tech specific components).

Is it just my imagination, or do conquered peoples automatically take on your racial and cultural traits?

Yep, they do. They also forget any special tech knowledge they had, those guys at kill themselves first you see. See my relate post on conquered planets.

I guess it makes it easier that all your races suddenly have the same boni and penalties, considering that you can mix them on planets. So the only thing that is maintained by a conquered race is their preferred planet and atmosphere type, eh?

Half right. They don't care about the planet type... Just atmosphere.
