Why not MM?

Why is this game called "Aaron Hall's DO" instead of "DO by Malfador Machinations" (or some derivative thereof)? Just curious.

hi
Sid's Last really good game was Alpha Centauri but it should of said Brian Reynolds alpha Centauri because he designed most of it not Sid..

with Aaron at least it's truth in advertising

Malfador Machinations is prety much a One man show. I know that Aaron get's help from outside sources, but Aaron is main designer, programmer, and music man at MM. The number of 'Outside' help Aaron recieves 'during development' can usually be counted on one hand. So I think Calling DO "Aaron Hall's Dungeon Odyssey" is more than appropriate.

There's another 'guy' who names virtually 'all' his games after himself.... Sid Meier as in 'Sid Meier's Civilization', Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire', 'Sid Meier's Sim Golf'.. etc. And Sid has a lot more people working on his development teams than Aaron. I feel that Aaron being pretty much a one man show has more right to use his name in the titles than Sid, Now, Sid 'was' a 'one + a few-men' show for quite awhile, but he has long since abandoned working alone. And I personally think that when you have a company and many employee's your/the games you produce should say "Game Name by COMPANY-X" as oposed to "Guy's Name's Game Name"

When the help you get is through 'Contracts' you should list the names of those who worked on the project in the credits, and this is always done. But let's say you are an 'employee' of said company, well, you shouldn't expect to have the game nammed after you, but you should expect to be given some sort of extra-credit in the way of the game being named after the company you work for. Listing the company as the maker of the game is IMHO more respectful of the employee's who worked on the game. Claiming credit for the work of a dev-team is selfish.

Ultimately what the game industry needs is to list credits like a film,.. Produced by.. Directed by.. Designed by... Staring...(this is where you list the Key-Talent that worked on the project.) and put this info on the cover of every box. just like when you buy a video/DVD.

But I digress, which I do from time to time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Cheers!

Sid Meier's Civilization II was also done by Brian Reynolds and not Sid Meier. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The guy that used to be on Norton AntiVirus never worked for symantec. He made a database software system, was bought out and he cashed in.

But Aaron Hall's Dungeon Odyssey sounds more important than just Dungeon Odyssey
