Protectorate/Subjugation Treaties

Does the weaker empire actually LOSE 20% or 40% of their resources, or are they "traded" like with other treaties?

I think they're paid like a tax. They're not lost, just transferred to the stronger empire. Its not like trade where you both get something.

Re: Protectorate/Subjugation Treaties

I just ran a simulation and set up a protectorate treaty between two empires. The weaker empire does, indeed, lose their points. That is reflected in the "resource expenses per turn" under "Empire Status".

Don't get into a subjugation treaty, even as the benificial power, under the 1.19 patch since it will reset your tech income to 50,000 and never let you have any higher research income until the treaty ends.
