FYI for modders
 
I recently re-did a modification of the Stellar Manipulation tech area that I posted a while back. What I did was remove all of the components from Stellar Manipulation and give them there own areas.

I ran into a problem, however. It appears that all the components in the COMPONENTS.TXT must stay in the same position, they cannot, like I did, be move to say, the end of the file. I ran into a problem where "WEAPONS" would not show up in "COMP TYPE" pull down when I was creating a ship. I re-did the mod, leaving all the components is their original positions and modifying them there. Everything works now.

If this is the case please let me know.

Really? I've modifed my componets.txt, and moved stuff around a lot, never seemed to have any problems with it.

BTW, would anyone like to work on making a visual editor for some of these text files? I know MM doesn't want to (he has better things to do http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif, so I figure it should fall on us the mod community http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif It shouldn't be to hard, start with one text file at a time. Yeah, it was the weirest thing. I fought with it for about an hour and finally decided to just start over, with the comps where they orginally were. I don't know why it happened. I had successfully reassigned the various stellar manipulation techs to their own areas, but no weapons, or stellar manipulations, showed up. Everything appears to work now, though. Hmmmmm.

sometimes when you mod the files you have to totally restart the game - and then start a new game.
