how would i go about running a search that would show me only the threads/topics that have new Posts in them

i havent found a way to do so yet though i do see that in the topic list new Posts highlight in a different color

as all i really want is to see topics w/ new Posts in the space empires forum

The view itself (except for stickies) is in newest to Last order. So you are seeing all of the threads with Posts. Since it shows the date of the Last post also you can tell when to quit looking at them.

At the main forum entrance http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi there is a button to show "Todays Active Topics". SEIV or Dominions amounts to most of the Posts so it wouldnt end up being too cluttered.

In your profile you can change your settings for how many days of traffic you want to see. 1, 2, 5, 10 whatever. I think it defaults to something like 45 days worth. Im not sure. I set mine for 2 days a long time ago

darn i was hoping there was a command i could run in my address bar to restrict it to just the space empires forum
sorta like a sql or php command
