Turning Bug?

Is it just me? I suspect this is a keyboard buffer bug. I'm running on a P4 with WinXP pro. Whenever I hold down one of he keys to turn my ship port/starboard, I start spinning, and before 360-degrees is completed the ship suddely lurches out of control in the opposite direction for a couple of seconds before returning to its original spin direction. Talk about sitting duck!

Re: Turning Bug?

Yup, happens to me too, which is unfortunate, since it makes it so that you have to use the mouse to turn properly in combat, making the game something of a clickfest nightmare just so you can move properly. My thumb is still sore from all the clicking I did in the demo, and it's a pain to have to jump from the mouse to the keyboard to hit the all stop button because your enemy decided to hit the brakes to make his turn.

Re: Turning Bug?

I can't use the keys for turning. Holding one down causes a ship to start turning, then stop, then start again when the key starts repeating. After that the ship keeps turning after I let go until it runs out of stored keypresses.

Setting up speed controls to left side of the keyboard where the weapons keys are and using the mouse to steer works well enough for me.

Re: Turning Bug?

Wydraz's message kind of makes it sound like the keys control a "desired heading" pointer instead of controlling the ship directly. If the key repeat rate is set higher than expected, the desired heading pointer could get ahead of the ship's turn speed, eventually passing 180 degrees relative to the ship's heading. That might cause the ship to suddenly change turning direction in order to take the shortest route to the desired heading. The second reversal of direction would happen as the pent up keys caused the desired heading to continue around all the way through 0 degrees again.

Of course, I'm just speculating here. I abandoned keyboard steering after a few minutes of trial just as Mehrunes did. Mouse control just seemed to be the way Starfury was "meant" to be played, at least to me.

sometimes, if you click high enough on the screen, the ship will turn. i think it does a 180 or something like that.
