Why do Neutrals build Open-Warp-Components

After I had destroyed a ship of the Texrak, I realized to my confusion that it had an open warp component on it!

As they don't leave their system, it's not too clever to open still more warp points for the convenience of their enemies.

Anyone have a clue?

They were planning on opening a new "Galactic DisneyLand" (Or was that Six flags over Altair?) and were building them to accomodate the increased tourist traffic.

Of course you went and blew it by wiping them out. Now your poor citizens will have to go back to visiting the Reno VI Casino and Urban Pacification Center.

no, its not too clever. however all AI, neutral or no, use the same build files (unless they are a custom race that a player has made...) and as such will build warp openers at the same ratio and under the same circumstances as a normal race. however, they will not travel through the warp points, so what you end up with is a neutral system with TEN warp points to totally RANDOM places.

But as I am sure our pal Frey' would point out, you can just roleplay through it http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

wow, never seen them do THAT. I think neutrals have to use the default AI files, but you could change the default and then make a custom set for every other race. (even if it was just a copy of the original default)

No, I've never seen Neutrals blowing their own system up, but if they're stupid enough to build open-warp-ships that make work easier for their enemies, you cannot know for sure. Would be a cool act when surrendering becomes inevitable - blow 50 ships of your enemy in the air and leave nothing but a fat black hole...

The Big Business lobby forces them to do it. Says open borders are good for trade, and that no one would dare to violate their sacred neutrality, for fear of economic reprisals.

Um, actually, I think I remember seeing a neutral exploring other systems once. It was a 1.02 Version game, not the current 1.19; but I'm fairly certain I saw one of the neutrals out exploring other systems...

Is it hard-coded in the game that makes the neutrals stay in their own system? I don't want them to try to expand in every system, but it would be nice if they at least colonized two or three other systems right around their home system.
