Some comments on the demo
I've just spent a few hours on the demo and I've only 1 impression... mid-space collisions!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif
After a while it really stops being funny and turns into nothing but pure frustration. Even a fighter running into my fully armed cruiser III would strip off the whole shield, all 600+ points of it. And for all the combat experince they have gained my crew doesn't even know how to avoid a PLANET while their captain tries to sit back and relax with time compression! Collision damage is way too severe. If something is going to let the game down, this is it. [ October 05, 2003, 03:18: Message edited by: CW ] |

Re: Some comments on the demo
I've never had a problem with collisions. Of course, my experience with space sims of various sorts over the years is probably the reason for that. A few dozen hours of dealing with Elite's dodgy autopilot can do wonders for your skill at avoiding navigational hazards. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
One tip I can give you is never, ever fly directly towards a planet or station. Click to the side of it and the worst that can happen is you'll fly past it. Another tip I can give is to rebind the accelerate and decelerate keys for easier access so that you can respond instantly when a ship your tailing decides that a crash stop is the best course of action (I can almost see them shaking their fist at you yelling "Lousy tailgaters!"). I've been rammed by fighters countless times, and when you are fighting a number of ships and fighters at once, it's not easy to avoid.
I've been rammed immediately after coming through a jump point more than a few times as well. |
