Two annoying problems with Starfury!
Now that I have had Starfury for a few days, I must say that I both like it and am aggravated with it.
The two problems I mentioned in the title are most of the aggravation: 1)The disk I received only will work with the DVD/CD-ROM combo drive on my new computer. While this is the computer that I planned to use with Starfury, it would have been nice to try it with the old one. However, It will not even load itself! It spins really fast and vibrates like mad...yet to my eye looks perfectly normal. It does this to a lesser extent even in my new computer's drive. 2) Three times now, I noticed the speed of my vessel slowing to about a tenth of it's normal speed. The speed remains locked until I reload the game at previous save point. Neither the keyboard keys OR a mouse click on the speed guage will coax the speed to change. This is very annoying at any time, but especially when in a battle or looking for some other ship in a system. In battle you tend to die quickly. (can anyone say sitting duck?) BTW I was not outside the system boundary's. Time one: going through a cloud (storm?) Time two: In battle with enemy destroyer (I died!) Time three: On my way through the Texas system. (I was on a time sensitive mission!) Has anybody else experianced these problems? |

Some weapons affect engines, I have been in battles and been almost stopped dead because enemy ships had Ionic Dispersers on them.

Apart from the engine disruptors, i went through a cloud which also slowed me. I don't know if i was near the edge, or if certain nebulae do that, but i have had it happen.

Re: Two annoying problems with Starfury!
Taz, in game hit the 'G' key to show the grid. The symptoms you describe for #2 may be your ship has left the grid. aim your ship inward and you will eventually return to real space.
If you were not out of bounds, try lowering the 'Stelar Detail' in the game options. Those nebulae can severly slow the game when in high detail. Even on fast systems. I hope this helps. Cheers! P.S. as for the CD speed Demon, Aaron has addressed this in the latest beta patch. He is planning to get the 'Official Patch' out by the end of this week. Or you can make a copy of the Starfury CD and run the game off the copy. That's what I did and the vibration is gone now.
